Dr. Stephen Felt
Dr. Stephen Felt completed his undergraduate schooling at the University of Nebraska at Omaha where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in biology. He furthered his education by obtaining a Doctorate of Optometry at the University of Houston College of Optometry. He performed an academic rotation at Evens Army Community Hospital at Fort Carson, Colorado as well as a medical rotation at the Omaha Eye and Laser Institute. While not in the office Dr. Felt enjoys cheering on his son in youth sports and spending time outdoors.
Dr. Douglass Fruin
Dr. Douglass Fruin graduated from college with a degree in biology from Hastings University. He furthered his education by obtaining a Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. Dr. Fruin interest in photography plus his passion for the sciences lead him to the study of optometry. “They eye acts as a camera for us, and I want to get people to see as well as they can and keep it that way.” “It’s always the most rewarding when it’s a difficult case. A patient that maybe hasn’t been able to see and they really don’t know why. When you give them an answer as to why, and if they can get better, seeing the relief or joy spread across their face makes it all worth it.” Outside of work Dr. Fruin enjoys reading and listening to podcasts, as well as spending time outside golfing and biking. He also loves spending time with friends and family.
Dr. Kirk Maynard
Dr. Kirk Maynard completed his undergraduate schooling at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in biology. He furthered his education by obtaining a Doctorate of Optometry from the Ilinois College of Optometry in Chicago. Dr. Maynard spent 23 years serving his country in the Air Force. He twice won Optometrist of the year honors in the Air Force. While in the Air Force Dr. Maynard directed a number of clinical internship programs and held adjunct clinical faculty positions with Ferris State College of Optometry, Indiana University College of Optometry, University of Houston College of Optometry, and the Illinois College of Optometry. Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his wife, Cynthia and his two children.
Dr. Larry Malashock
Dr. Larry Malashock completed his undergraduate schooling at the University of Nebraska at Omaha where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in computer science and physics. He furthered his education by obtaining a Doctorate of Optometry at the Southern College of Optometry. He has been an active member of the Nebraska Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association for over 20 years. He recently finished a 10 year stretch as a director of the Nebraska Optometric Association political action committee. Outside of work Dr. Malashock enjoys spending time with his wife of over 25 years and his 3 kids.
Dr. Neal Malashock
Dr. Neal Malashock completed his undergraduate schooling at Colorado State University and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in physics and general sciences. He furthered his education by obtaining a Doctorate of Optometry from the Southern College of Optometry. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Nebraska Optometric Association, and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. His specialty areas are pediatric vison, vision therapy and low-vision care and is licensed to administer and prescribe both diagnostic and therapeutic medications. “There are few things more rewarding than for me to find that the next name in my appointment book is one that I’ve known for decades.”
Dr. Matthew Schekirke
Dr. Matthew Schekirke attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha before obtaining a Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry. He has been practicing for 11 years before joining Malbar Vision in late 2018. Dr. Schekirke enjoys his work because every day brings a new set of challenges. “I enjoy that optometry differs from many other healthcare fields in that we spend more one-on-one time with patients and really get to know them over time.” Outside of work you can find Dr. Schekirke spending time with his wife and two children. He also holds a pilot’s license and is a die-hard Nebraska Cornhusker fan.
